Main Street Hygienists
Along with the dentist, the dental hygienist is a healthcare professional that is able to offer services after obtaining the proper credentials and registration from the College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta. Dental hygienists work as part of the Main Street Dental team, performing certain tasks that involve direct patient care.
Upon completing a 2-4 year dental hygiene program, a dental hygienist will have a firm understanding of oral anatomy, pharmacology, nutrition, radiology and periodontology. This knowledge base allows the dental hygienist to provide dental treatment in a very effective and professional manner.
Perhaps the single most common group of tasks associated with the profession involves preventive dental care. Gum and bone maintenance is often taken care of by the dental hygienist; and it involves the removal of plaque and calculus, tooth polishing, and the application of fluoride.
Furthermore, the hygienist engages in educating the patient in general oral hygiene. This emphasis on patient education and collaboration is of great importance for the team here at Main Street Dental.
